Profile

Rory is a senior associate in Russell McVeagh's Real Estate team. He advises major property investors and developers, including leading domestic and overseas funds and property institutions and corporate property owners/occupiers on their most important projects, particularly in relation to market leading, novel, high value capital markets transactions and complex and large-scale real estate development projects. Rory also provides support to New Zealand Crown entities and other clients who control some of New Zealand's key infrastructure assets, helping them to achieve their commercial objectives.

Rory re-joined the firm in 2020 after spending a number of years working in London as an Associate for Clifford Chance and In-house Counsel for Marks and Spencer - a major listed, British multinational retailer operating more than 959 stores in the United Kingdom.

  • Goodman Property Trust on various acquisitions, development projects and leasing transactions relating to their property portfolio.
  • A significant infrastructure business on its compliance with the Overseas Investment Act in relation to a major transaction.
  • KiwiRail on the management, development and strategic direction of its national rail estate.
  • Marks and Spencer on their property-backed pension fund, on their response to the challenges brought by the global COVD-19 pandemic, and on their significant Estate revitalisation programme (which involved a move away from traditional town centre stores to retail park formats).
