Marika is a commercial litigation specialist with particular expertise in banking and financial markets, real estate and construction, and insurance.

Marika represents clients in a variety of commercial disputes, both in the Courts and in arbitrations. She also advises on a range of contentious and non-contentious matters including contract, company and securities law, banking, construction, leasing and insurance.

Marika brings a commercial and strategic approach to disputes and is valued for her ability to avoid and efficiently resolve issues for her clients.


Marika’s recent experience includes:

  • Appearing as counsel in the Courts and arbitrations in relation to a variety of disputes, including complex contractual disputes, banking services, professional negligence, construction, leasing and Fair Trading Act issues.
  • Specialist advice on significant insurance placements, including major IPOs and construction projects, as well as warranty and indemnity insurance in mergers and acquisitions transactions.
  • Acting and advising on significant insurance claims, including in respect of earthquake damage.
  • Advising issuers and other industry participants on liability and recommended processes under financial markets legislation.
  • Acting on complex rent reviews (including ground rent reviews) and other lease-related disputes.

Marika was admitted to practise in New Zealand in 2007.

She is the co-author of Russell McVeagh’s insurance update, together with the Financial Regulation and Construction disputes updates.

Marika is co-author of the New Zealand chapter in The Insurance and Reinsurance Law Review – Edition 7, with Russell McVeagh banking and finance partner Tom Hunt, and a co-author of the 2019 New Zealand chapter in The Securities Litigation Review - Edition 5.
