Talented Litigation partner and co-leader of Russell McVeagh's lnsurance Disputes practice, Nathaniel Walker, has been recognised in the 6th edition of Chambers and Partners High Net Worth Guide 2021, for Private Wealth Law in New Zealand.

As one of only two 'Up and Coming' partners in New Zealand, and one of 155 across the globe ranked in the 2021 Guide, this is a significant achievement which reflects Nat's notable reputation as a market-leading litigator, with a focus on complex private client disputes, particularly those involving cross-border elements.

Drawing on his local and international experience, Nat provides strategic advice on a range of complex private and public law issues particularly on equity and trusts matters for a range of high net worth clients. His recent experience includes:

  • acting for a trustee corporation in an application to transfer more than 2,000 trust and estate appointments;

  • on a novel 'double derivative' directors' duty claim brought by trust beneficiaries; and

  • on the New Zealand law aspects of beneficiaries' claims in the Florida state court relating to alleged misappropriated trust funds.

Nat frequently publishes on matters of trust law, and actively participates in trust law reform.

He re-joined Russell McVeagh in 2017, having spent more than two years in New York practising at Cravath, Swaine and Moore LLP and completing his Master of Laws at Colombia. He became a Russell McVeagh partner in 2018, and in 2020 was named a Rising Star by NZ Lawyer magazine, and he is listed as a recommended Dispute Resolution lawyer by Legal 500.
