Russell McVeagh is growing its South Island team with the addition of a new partner, Sam Nelson, based in the firm's Tāhuna Queenstown office. Sam joins partner Tony Sycamore and the team who joined Russell McVeagh in December 2024.
As a business and commercial property law specialist, Sam's expertise spans a range of industry sectors. He has a particular focus on the purchasing and selling of property and businesses, commercial leasing, land development and subdivision, business structuring, overseas investment, rural and forestry law and succession planning.
Sam previously established and led the Queenstown office of another New Zealand law firm where he was partner for 15 years. He is a director of NZ Forestry Partnership and a Member of the Board of Trustees for Te Atamira.
Board Chair David Butler said, "We are delighted to have someone of Sam's calibre and experience join our firm. He is a highly regarded and trusted lawyer who, over many years, has formed deep relationships in the Lakes region and across the South Island.
Sam's appointment reflects our commitment to grow our South Island practice and further strengthens our capability and quality of offering to service our clients. We are incredibly grateful for the warm welcome we have received with our Queenstown office opening earlier this year and for the ongoing support from our clients and the community throughout Te Waipounamu."
"Joining Russell McVeagh presents an exciting opportunity to work with some of the best legal specialists in New Zealand. Having a top tier firm established in Queenstown will add tremendous value to our local clients, offering them access to world-class legal expertise right on their doorstep."
