Tips & Tricks
Your application
Ensure your CV is easy to read. Choose a standard font, use bullet points to break up blocks of information, and proofread for correct spelling and grammar.
Your CV could include:
- A short objective or personal statement.
- Work, community and volunteer experience.
- Qualifications and education.
- Relevant technical skills.
Instead of a cover letter, you will answer three questions through our online portal. These help us get to know you a little better and why you're interested in a career in commercial law. We would like to know more about your interests, leadership and commitments outside your studies, such as community involvement, cultural activities, sport, volunteering or family/whānau responsibilities.
Video interview
- Choose a quiet space without interruptions.
- Treat it like an in-person interview – dress the part and check your background for distractions.
- Check your internet connection and sound before starting.
- If you need help with your setup, please get in touch with the Careers team.
- You do get to re-do one video, so don't worry if you feel like you freeze or need another attempt!
Interview Preparation
- Be yourself – we want to hear what drew you to commercial law, and how we could support you on your career journey.
- Take some time to learn about the firm and why you would like to work with us.
- Ask for clarification if a question is unclear and take a moment to think before answering.
- Prepare a few questions you would like to ask us – what are you really curious about?
- Dress code is business casual.
