Profile

Louise is a technology specialist with over 20 years' experience in New Zealand and in the United Kingdom. She advises technology consumers and suppliers on technology-related contracts, projects and regulatory compliance issues in a wide range of sectors including financial services, telecommunications, healthcare, media and broadcasting, education and fashion. 
 
Louise has advised on many business transformation programmes and other business critical technology projects involving the supply of core solutions, infrastructure and services. Her project and contract expertise also includes advising on complex, large-scale outsourcing contracts; technology development and exploitation; system supply and integration agreements; hosting, support and maintenance arrangements; and SaaS agreements. She also advises on technology-related and digital compliance issues, including those relating to the introduction of new technology solutions and services in New Zealand.

In addition to her technology expertise, Louise also brings specialist experience assisting Māori organisations with the procurement of new technology solutions and the provision of general technology advice.

Louise has an interest in new and emerging technologies, including their impact on Māori. She has written and spoken widely in both the UK and in New Zealand on artificial intelligence, the internet of things, big data, cloud/fog computing, quantum computing, drones, and other technology trends. She also co-authored the New Zealand technology chapter in the The 7th Edition of the Legal500 TMT Country Comparative Guide 2023 - The New Zealand Chapter and is a key contributor to Russell McVeagh's The digital download: Taking SaaS to the World.
 
She is Deputy Chair of the Artificial Intelligence Forum of New Zealand and a member of its Māori subcommittee. She has been an elected member of its Executive Council since 2018.
 
Louise was named as one of NZ Lawyer's Most Influential Lawyer's 2021 in the Changemaker category and is listed in in the 2024 Asia Pacific Legal 500 Guide as a Rising Star – Technology, Media & Telecommunications.

  • a pension fund provider on its IT and telecommunications infrastructure upgrade project, involving multiple suppliers and jurisdictions.
  • a local authority on its procurement of multiple SAP systems and services to support its critical backend and customer-facing services.
  • one of New Zealand’s largest private healthcare providers on the development, implementation, support, and hosting of a patient administration and electronic record management system.
  • a tertiary education provider on its procurement of a business critical student management system and related services.
  • a global publishing company on its procurement of a new digital content management system and related support arrangements.
  • a global online games developer on compliance issues relating to the distribution and supply of its products in New Zealand.
