Profile

Peter provides solution focused commercial and corporate law advice to his clients across sectors, including on M&A transactions, joint ventures, business structuring (and re-structuring) and general corporate advisory. He advises on a full range of commercial matters across sectors, including drafting and negotiating complex service agreements, supply agreements and strategic/framework agreements.

Peter is an editor of and key contributor to our Energy Blog.

Experience

Peter joined Russell McVeagh in 2021 and works across the firm's Corporate Advisory practice. Peter has a keen interest and experience in the energy and technology sectors and acts for a number of the firm's key clients in that space. He joined the firm from the London office of Mourant, an international law firm, where he gained significant experience across a range of corporate and commercial transactions. Peter brings a calm manner and robust process to his work and excels at complex problem solving, drafting and advising on commercial contracts.

  • WEL Networks on the acquisition of the 'shovel ready' Naumai Solar farm.

  • an electricity distribution company on the acquisition of key energy transmission assets.

  • a major shareholder on the closure and transformation of the Marsden Point refinery into an import terminal.

  • a fuels market participant on supply and logistics arrangements including drafting framework agreements.

  • a number of Government agencies on IT transformation projects and implementation of new software solutions and systems.

  • Waste Management NZ on a range of commercial contracting and procurement matters (senior team lead on part-time secondment to the legal team for 8 months). 

  • EQC on various contractual matters and data sharing issues under a framework agreement with insurers.

  • an investor into an electric bikes business and its series B funding round.

  • Beijing Capital Group on its $1.9bn divestment of Waste Management NZ.

  • a bidder on its proposed acquisition of Kiwi Wealth.

  • an energy retailer on their customer terms and conditions.

  • a local council on its funding of key commercial property developments.

Professional

Peter was admitted in New Zealand in 2014. He worked for 4 years at a highly regarded boutique commercial and M&A firm. He then worked for Mourant for 3 years in Guernsey (Channel Islands) and London, as an associate in the Corporate Group before joining Russell McVeagh in 2021.
