Profile

Patrick advises on environmental and resource management law, local government and climate change. 
 
He has a range of litigation experience, having appeared before local authorities, the Environment Court and the High Court. He also advises on a variety of policy, advisory and transactional matters.
 

Experience

Patrick's recent experience includes:

  • Representing Ports of Auckland on a range of resource management and planning matters, including successfully obtaining resource consent to deepen the Waitematā Navigation Channel and the Fergusson North Berth.

  • Assisting Fonterra on a range of farming and manufacturing matters, including changes to regional freshwater regimes.

  • Successfully assisting clients facing enforcement action or prosecution under the Resource Management Act.

  • Advising urban developer clients and investors on a range of matters including unlocking development potential for land outside the rural-urban boundary, consenting inner-city developments, and working with historic heritage.

  • Advising clients in relation to climate change obligations and recent changes to the regulatory regime.

Professional

Patrick began his career at Russell McVeagh in 2012 and was admitted to the bar in 2013. Patrick practiced law in the United Kingdom and at another New Zealand law firm before returning to Russell McVeagh in 2020. He was promoted to Senior Associate in 2020.
 
He is a member of the Resource Management Law Association and the Auckland District Law Society Environmental and Resource Management Law Committee.
