Profile

Emily is a senior associate in the firm's Corporate Advisory team. She has extensive experience advising on mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, joint ventures and commercial contracts for listed and unlisted clients in the energy, insurance, banking, telecommunications, FMCG, pharmaceuticals and oil and gas sectors.
 
Before joining Russell McVeagh in September 2019, Emily worked at another large New Zealand law firm. Prior to that she worked in Johannesburg for ENSafrica (the largest tier one firm in Africa) where she advised on several high profile transactions.

Emily's deal highlights include advising:
 
  • QIC Private Capital on the successful completion of its purchase of 50% of Vector Limited's New Zealand and Australian metering business.
  • Westpac Group on the sale of its New Zealand life insurance business to Fidelity Life for NZ$400m.
  • The under-bidder for a New Zealand premium pet food business.
  • Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation on the establishment of a partnership with Classic Group. 
  • Greenstone Financial Services on its staged acquisition of Pinnacle Life. 
  • Walter & Wild Limited on its acquisition of Hubbard Foods Limited.
  • Vodafone Plc on its sale of Vodafone New Zealand.
  • BP Oil New Zealand Limited on its joint venture arrangement with WorleyParsons in the established entity New Zealand Oil Services Limited.
  • Barclays Africa Group Limited (now Absa Group Limited) on the sell-down by Barclays Plc of its shareholdings in its African subsidiaries.

Professional

Emily joined Russell McVeagh in 2019. Emily is a dual qualified lawyer, having been admitted to practice in South Africa in 2014 and in New Zealand in 2022. Emily was involved in the deal which won "M&A Deal of the Year" at the NZ Law Awards in 2020.
