Hamish Beckett and Rachel O'Brien are promoted to Senior Associate within the leading firm's Corporate and Litigation teams, based in Auckland.
Their promotions are further to the firm's promotion of five of its lawyers to partner and four to special counsel.
Hamish Beckett, Corporate Advisory
Hamish joined Russell McVeagh in 2013 and specialises in mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, overseas investment, joint venture arrangements and a broad range of commercial contracts and general corporate matters. He is a trusted adviser known for his technical skills and ability to calmly guide clients through complex transactions with pragmatic advice.
Hamish acts for a number of the firm's key corporate clients, including Fonterra, the Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation, Lion, Woolworths, Healthscope and the Riverside Company. His recent experience includes advising the Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation on its investment in the NZ Gourmet business, the Riverside Company on its acquisition of the Hiway group, Healthscope on the extension of its community laboratory testing contract with the Northern Region DHBs and Suncorp on its takeover offer for Tower Insurance by way of scheme of arrangement.
Rachel O'Brien, Litigation
Having recently returned to Russell McVeagh after working in London and the Middle East, Rachel has significant experience in intellectual property, data protection and privacy law. Her scientific background makes her especially qualified to advise on technical mechanical, chemical and pharmaceutical cases and she has advised numerous clients in relation to international and local trade mark, copyright and patent disputes. She provides strategic advice in corporate and commercial matters to ensure clients' rights are protected.
Rachel's work includes providing contentious and non-contentious advice in relation to all forms of intellectual property, including trade marks, copyright, patents, designs and confidential information, coordinating litigation actions spanning multiple jurisdictions and advising clients on their privacy and data protection obligations in relation to the collection, storage, use and transfer of personal data.
