With effect from 1 December 2016, Troy Pilkington joined the Russell McVeagh partnership. First starting in 2007, Troy has been with the firm’s Public, Regulatory and Competition Law Practice Group for nine years.
After studying law and accounting at Auckland University, Troy summer clerked at a peer law firm, then joined PwC for 14 months as an accountant, advising small to medium-sized businesses. Following his move to Russell McVeagh in 2007, he was promoted to Senior Solicitor in 2010 and to Senior Associate in December 2012.
Troy specialises in anti-trust investigations, prosecutions and appeals, competition law advice on behavioural arrangements and conduct, clearances and authorisations of mergers and acquisitions, and Fair Trading Act advice on compliance, complaints and investigations. He has acted in a number of high profile cartel and consumer law investigations/prosecutions, M&A transactions, and joint ventures.
Troy is a regular speaker at New Zealand and Auckland Law Society Seminars, a board member of the Competition Law and Policy Institute of New Zealand, and a regular contributor to the American Bar Association’s Antitrust publications.
Sarah Keene, the firm’s Public, Regulatory and Competition Law Practice Group Chair says, “Troy provides expert, confident, timely, and commercial ‘best in market’ Commerce Act and Fair Trading Act advice, that achieves the best results for our clients – whilst being enjoyable to deal with.”
When asked what advice he would give to young lawyers following in his footsteps, Troy said, “Success comes from being motivated, and always being interested and curious when working on new projects and complex matters. Enjoy the challenges, and find the fun in every day.”
Russell McVeagh congratulates Troy on his new appointment.
