Training & Development

At Russell McVeagh we have a dedicated training and development team to assist you in achieving your development goals. The emphasis on training and development continues throughout your career and we tailor this to suit your individual needs and aspirations. Alongside your ‘on the job’ development and coaching, we run a wide portfolio of programmes covering technical, people and business development. You will have opportunities to attend many of these as you progress your career with us.

We also recognise that an important part of training is ensuring that you receive regular feedback. This is encouraged both through informal ‘on the job’ feedback, and through formal bi-annual performance appraisals.

Mentoring and the opportunity for external experience

We help to develop our solicitors’ careers through external experience such as secondments, to help them advance their skills and grow their relationship with our clients. We also maintain strong networks with clients and overseas firms for solicitors who may wish to travel and work offshore.

For our summer clerks, law clerk and younger solicitors, we offer a ‘buddy’ system, where each new solicitor is paired with a buddy who can be their first point of reference and show them the ropes at the firm. We also offer a mentoring scheme which is open to all staff.

At a more senior level, our senior associate special counsel programme offers mentoring and a variety of support mechanisms with a goal to maximise the likelihood of successful transition to partner.
