About Russell McVeagh

Russell McVeagh is New Zealand's premier law firm committed to operating at the cutting edge of legal practice. Our award-winning team of lawyers across Auckland | Tāmaki Makaurau and Wellington | Te Whanganui-a-Tara are internationally recognised for their thought leadership, depth of experience and ability to translate complex legal issues into client success stories.

We work on New Zealand's most significant and highly complex transactions, many of which have cross-border considerations. This includes transactions for major corporates, Government projects of national significance, and key infrastructure projects to help shape New Zealand.

Our values of Respect | Manaaki, Curiosity | Māhirahira, Excellence | Whai hiranga and Tenacity | Whakapau kaha reflect who we are and how we work together.

About the role

Our multi-disciplinary infrastructure sector group works with clients through all stages of an infrastructure project, from development, financing and construction through to operation, maintenance and the acquisition or sale of infrastructure assets.  Our teams in this group understand the 'hotspots' our clients face at each stage and we help them to avoid, or resolve, issues and disputes.

Russell McVeagh is looking to grow our infrastructure and projects offering in Wellington led by our Head of Infrastructure, Michael Loan, who sits in our Corporate Advisory group.   We are looking for a mid-senior level lawyer who is enthusiastic about working on large scale renewable energy and infrastructure matters, including across joint ventures, M&A, capital raisings and the structuring and project contracts work required to deliver a successful project.  The successful candidate would also have the opportunity to work on broader corporate advisory and commercial matters, including with Cath Shirley-Brown, who specialises in public and private M&A (including distressed transactions), joint venture and shareholder arrangements, and corporate and commercial law generally.

About you

If you are looking for an opportunity to work within a supportive, ambitious, growing and energetic team and would like to join an award-winning full-service firm, we would like to hear from you.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A legal qualification with a minimum 3 years’ legal experience.
  • Ideally you will have some experience in projects and infrastructure (although enthusiasm for the sector is also relevant).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and think critically.
  • A strong service focus with the need to listen and understand the essential requirements of different areas of the firm.
  • Ability to build connections and work collaboratively.

Benefits

We offer a wide range of employee benefits focused on supporting our people to succeed and thrive, some of which include:

  • Competitive remuneration package;
  • Support, coaching, and considered training and development programmes;
  • Annual wellness subsidy, phone allowance, and talent referral bonus incentives; and
  • Team charity days, sports days, annual ball, and regular team events.
