Brendan is a tax specialist. He advises on various aspects of direct and indirect taxation with a particular focus on financing transactions, cross border arrangements and tax investigations and disputes with the Inland Revenue.
A partner since 2003, Brendan 's clients include a range of banks and other major New Zealand and international corporations.
- Acting on acquisitions of New Zealand businesses and on acquisitions by New Zealand interests of offshore businesses.
- Advising on financing of cross border acquisitions.
- Providing advice on tax aspects of supply arrangements (including GST and withholding tax issues).
- Advising on tax issues arising from foreign currency denominated transactions.
- Representing clients in their dealings with Inland Revenue, including in connection with binding rulings and tax investigations.
- Advising on, and representing clients, in connection with disputes and litigation with Inland Revenue.
- Working directly with Inland Revenue officials on law reform issues and tax policy matters.
- Acting for New Zealand and foreign banks in cross border structured financing transactions.
- Advising multinationals on intra-group financing arrangements.
- Advising on structured capital raisings, preference share financings, securitisations and other financing proposals.
- Advising banks and other institutions on tax consequences of investment products and other retail banking products.
