Pip Greenwood was awarded Dealmaker of the Year, New Zealand, by an independent judging panel who commented: "This well-connected Kiwi dealmaker acts for clients such as Lion Nathan, Telecom, Auckland International Airport, Fairfax, Kiwi Income Property Trust and CanWest MediaWorks, and has had a hand in some of New Zealand's biggest 2007 deals."
Derek Nolan's team was recognised for the complex work involved with respect to the Auckland's waterfront redevelopment. Auckland Regional Holdings owns 29 hectares of prime waterfront land in central Auckland, in the currently industrial precinct known as "Wynyard Quarter". The ARH landholding (previously owned by Ports of Auckland Limited) comprises approximately 70% of the wider Quarter. Ports of Auckland Limited and ARH as its successor have been the key driver, in partnership with the Auckland City Council, in researching, designing and proposing a new form of development for Wynyard Quarter. Russell McVeagh has been sole provider of planning and property-related legal advice to both Ports of Auckland Limited and Auckland Regional Holdings throughout this process.
Of this award, the judges noted: "The multibillion-dollar project involves a redevelopment of over 18 hectares of Auckland prime waterfront land – an area greater in size than the current Auckland CBD. It stands apart from most other significant-scale waterfront projects around the world because it has been achieved by way of contract, as opposed to the need for special purpose legislation."
