Chrystal is a senior associate in the firm's Government, Public Law & Policy practice. She provides pragmatic advice to government and private sector clients to support them in achieving their goals and objectives, whilst ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory frameworks. She also assists clients to input on proposed legislative and policy changes in their sector, including through consultation and inquiry processes. Chrystal's background in the public sector allows her to provide an insight into these processes and assist with effective advocacy.
Chrystal's recent work includes:
Advising clients in the aged care, agricultural, education, energy, forestry, food and beverage, gaming, tobacco and transport industries on navigating new and proposed legislative and regulatory frameworks.
Advising Crown entities on their public law obligations, including matters involving consultation, funding and the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act.
Acting for clients involved in public law litigation, including a charitable trusts matter and Waitangi Tribunal inquiry.
Assisting clients with responding to Official Information Act requests and Ombudsman investigations.
LLB (Hons), BA (English), University of Otago.
Before joining Russell McVeagh, Chrystal worked at the Crown Law Office in the Attorney-General's group, where she advised, and appeared in court, on matters involving constitutional law, human rights and charitable trusts. Prior to that, she worked at the Law Commission, where she was involved in a variety of legal and policy reform projects.
